Thanks to my son, Miles Eddy (mileseddy.com), I’m starting this web page on February 22, 2010, to continue my ministry as a Unitarian Universalist minister. Though I retired June 30, 2005 as the pastor of the Unitarian Universalist congregation in Pensacola, Florida – the role now being ably filled by the Rev. Julie Kane (uupensacola.org) – I’ve continued to speak and teach and consult with other UU congregations in the southeast and elsewhere in the United States.
I was born September 23, 1930, received a B.A. from Syracuse University in 1953, and an M.Div. from Drew Theological Seminary in 1956. I completed postgraduate training in Family Therapy at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY in 1972.
After serving Methodist churches in upstate New York, I joined the staff of the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers) in 1958. Entering the Unitarian Universalist ministry in 1963, I served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Farmington, MI, Schenectady, NY and Denver, CO.
I left the Unitarian Universalist ministry in July of 1976, founded the Grief Education Institute in Denver, CO, and for many years carried on a private practice as an individual, couples and family counselor in the Denver area specializing in grief counseling. I returned to the Unitarian Universalist Ministry in 1989 and served as an interim minister in Boulder, CO; Adelaide, Australia; Indianapolis, IN.and Pensacola, FL. After a year of travel, speaking to Unitarian Universalist congregations from Fairbanks, Alaska to San Miguel, Mexico, I was invited to returned to Pensacola in August 2001 as contract minister and was elected settled minister in September 2002. I retired and was designated Minister Emeritus on June 30, 2005.
My special interests these days are history of religions, epistemology, and genealogy.
My wife, Gerry and I were avid bicycle campers in our fifties and sixties and still are. We accumulated over 25,000 “loaded” miles (that is carrying tent, sleeping bags and often cooking gear) – in 20 countries. We probably rode an equal number of “unloaded” miles in training. In recent years we’ve slowed a bit and no longer ride mountain passes or sleep in a tent. However, we rode 1,000 miles in the summer 2009) on “bike trails” (old railroad right of ways) in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. See our personal web page bobandgerryeddy.com for more information on our biking and other hobbies and interests.
Because of spam, I’ve disabled the respond feature on this site but would welcome comments at bobeddyuu@aol.com.
